About the School

Minjiwoong Central School is under Serthi gewog and is located in the centre of Lauri gewog in the north and Langchenphu gewog in the south. There are three Gewogs under Jomotshangkha Drungkhag. It is connected by 23 km farm road from the Drungkhag.

Minjiwoong Central School has been upgraded to the next higher level ever since its establishment in 1992. It was initially established as a community primary school in 1992. The labor contribution by people of Serthi Gewog supported the government towards the birth of this school. It had then only four structures functioning as classrooms, dining hall and kitchen. The children had a tough time looking for space (temporary huts) managing their own lodging around the campus. Late Lopen Ugyen Tshewang nurtured its infancy as a head of the school.

The school was upgraded to the lower secondary level in 2000. The first batch of class VIII graduated in 2001 with 100% pass result. It was not easy for both parents and outgoing students who had to travel a long distance crossing Indian Boarders to pursue higher studies in Middle and Higher Secondary Schools with boarding facilities. In this pretext, there were a few instances our children dropped from continuing their studies. The parents and the community through Gewog raised their voices towards the need of a high school to benefit the students of entire Drungkhag.

In this connection the government, through Gewog and Dzongkhag governance studied the situation and in 2015, the school landed in ‘blessing in disguise’ situation when it saw a major shift from LSS to Central School. Also, all 24 central schools became Autonomous schools by April 2015. The school is provided with not only the basic requirements but its children are well equipped with beddings, clothes, shoes, mattress and stationery, all free of cost.

Today, it caters to the educational needs of Lauri, Serthi and Langchenphu Gewogs. Moreover, it also serves our youths in its best possible capacity in both academic and non-academic fields.

The school is accessed with the farm road which is blacktopped till the school. The school is connected with internet and other modern technologies such as Wi-Fi, smart boards, CCTV camera and E-Library.
